Every answer is indefinite. Every path forward is liable to become obstructed by a new competitive force, a new expense, or some new regulatory impediment. As such, the leader's greatest fight is against uncertainty. You can compartmentalize just about everything, but you can't unplug from uncertainty.

Repair Café

Repair Café:

What do you do with a chair when the leg has come loose? With a toaster that no longer works? Or a woollen jumper with moth holes? Toss it? No way!

You can repair it at the Repair Café

Repair Cafés are free meeting places and they’re all about repairing things (together). In the place where a Repair Café is located, you’ll find tools and materials to help you make any repairs you need. On clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, appliances, toys, et cetera. You will also find repair specialists such as electricians, seamstresses, carpenters and bicycle mechanics.
Visitors bring their broken items from home. Together with the specialists they start making their repairs in the Repair Café. It’s an ongoing learning process. If you have nothing to repair, you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. Or you can lend a hand with someone else’s repair job. You can also get inspired at the reading table – by leafing through books on repairs and DIY.

 It’s time for the U.S. to tackle youth unemployment by borrowing from the apprenticeship programs we have developed at Siemens in Germany.

In the typical apprenticeship, high school students enter the program while finishing high school. They take college classes, get paid, gain a skill while working and graduate with a degree. At Siemens, we have been involved in apprenticeships since the founding of our company in 1847. It is a concept which goes back for centuries and was alive and well in the U.S. at its founding. In fact, Benjamin Franklin was an apprentice.

The correlation between youth apprenticeships, youth employment and economic prosperity is undeniable. It’s time for the U.S. to take a bold step towards reducing youth unemployment by borrowing from this idea. It’s a bet worth making.

Un nouveau pavillon destiné à soutenir la recherche et l'expérimentation en transformation de l'aluminium sera aménagé à Sept-Îles.

Les coûts de construction, évalués à 10 M$, seront entièrement assumés par l'aluminerie Alouette. L'entreprise remplit ainsi un engagement pris dans le cadre de l'entente d'octobre 2011 sur l'allocation d'un bloc d'électricité de 500 MW, destiné au développement de sa phase 3.

Pour sa part, Québec investira un million de dollars dans les équipements, alors que l'Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC) assurera l'offre de services universitaires.

Le bâtiment, qui sera construit sur les terrains du Cégep de Sept-Îles, devrait être terminé à l'automne 2014. Il pourra accueillir jusqu'à 400 étudiants.

Grâce à cette nouvelle liste d’installations et de laboratoires de la FCI, des entreprises et autres organisations ayant des besoins en innovation et en recherche trouveront l’expertise, l’équipement et les installations spécialisés situés tout près d’eux ‒ ou ailleurs au Canada ‒ dans pratiquement toutes les disciplines.
